Paul Melanson, 96, of Villa Providence in Shediac, formerly of Moncton, passed away on Monday January 15, 2018 at The Moncton Hospital. Born on April 19, 1921 in Moncton, he was the son of the late James and Marguerite (LeBlanc) Melanson, and adoptive son of Herminie (Gallant) Melanson.
He is survived by four daughters: Marianne "Annie" Collette (Raymond), Lynda Melanson, Lea Melanson, and Jeannette Williams (Steve), all of Moncton; three sons: Jim (Dora) of Moncton, Danny (Doreen) of Shediac, and Paul Jr of Dieppe; one sister, Maria Melanson of Moncton; two brothers: Jimmy (Irene) of Ottawa, and Omer (Eva) of Moncton; 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Moncton Hospital Palliative Care Unit 3600 for the good care and kindness towards Paul as well as to the staff of the Villa Providence in Shediac for their great care provided during the last two years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anna née Lirette (2003); one infant son, Paul; two sisters: Marguerite and Dora; three brothers: Laurie, Cloris, and Normand.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) from where the funeral service will be celebrated on Friday January 19 at 11 am. Visiting hours are Thursday from 7 to 9 pm. A reception will follow at the funeral centre. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. In memory of Paul, a contribution to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
